- Korea, what was considered to be the Hermit Kingdom in this time period
Hermit Kingdom
Korea was named the Hermit kingdom because of its isolationist practices. Isolationist means a policy of remaining apart from the affairs of other countries. Part of the reason they distanced themselves was because of the attack they received from Japan. Korea was to different from their surrounding countries, deciding to make their own alphabet, and unlike the Japanese and Chinese alphabets, which had used symbols, their alphabet, called Hungul, was much like the one used in the Americas. Most of the traditions they followed were made in their country, but some were Chinese. Not even Christian missionaries or European traders were allowed inside the country, which is why they were called the Hermit Kingdom.
